Preparation of a case study about global/trans-national level transformative initiatives
The Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung is an internationally operating, left non-profit organisation for civic education affiliated with Germany’s “Die Linke”. Active since 1990, the foundation has been committed to the analysis of social and political processes and developments worldwide. We work for a just world system based on international solidarity.
The tender is for a service to write a book chapter describing trans-national/global urban transformation initiatives and concepts that will be part of the Global Working Groups’ third publication on “Urban Transformation”. The successful bidder is expected to coordinate all steps needed to prepare the manuscript together with the Editorial Team. The final document must be delivered ready to be sent out directly for proof reading and language editing.
The Project:
The Global Working Group “Beyond Development” (GWGBD) was established in 2016 in cooperation with RLS Brussels Office. It brings together around 30 political activists and academics from five continents, representing a wide range of social-cultural struggles. It aims to build ecologically sustainable, radically democratic and economically viable alternatives to the exploitative modes of living that are engendered by global capitalism.
Terms of references:
- Draft a chapter surveying global/trans-national level transformative initiatives such as Transformative Cities, Atlas of Utopia and emerging new concepts like the Right to Say No, the Right to the city, etc.;
- Include a critical assessment of these initiatives happening beyond localized processes;
- Address recommendations and comments from the Editorial Team, language editors and proof readers until the text is ready for layout;
- The texts should be 8,000–12,000 words in length excluding bibliography;
- The book chapter must be completed in English;
- The final text must be submitted to the Editorial Team by 15 June 2019 unless agreed otherwise.
Profile:
- Experience in collaborative work across continents;
- Publication experience;
- Experience with urban transformation global initiatives;
- Knowledge of the debates of the Global Working Group Beyond Development around urban transformation;
- Knowledge of previous debates of the Global Working Group “Beyond Development” and its previous publications “Stopping the Machines” and “Alternatives in a World of Crisis”.
What we offer:
- Contract of work and services as specified with Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung Brussels.
- A total of €2.000 excluding taxes for all services agreed, paid in one installment.
Conditions:
- Duration of contract is 15 May 2019 until 1 August 2019.
- This contract is not renewable.
After completion of services:
- Invoice to Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung after completion of agreed services.
