About the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung

The Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung (RLS) is a German political foundation affiliated with Die Linke, promoting democratic socialism through education and critical engagement. Since 1990, it has advanced internationalist, anti-capitalist, and emancipatory ideals rooted in the workers’, women’s, anti-fascist, and anti-racist movements. RLS works globally to foster reflection, analysis, and alternatives for just and transformative social change.

Project overview

RLS Brussels is preparing a visually strong survey report on the use of technology in left-wing organising. The publication is based on original survey data and analysis and explores how digital tools are currently used in organising practices, where barriers exist, and what strategic capacities progressive organisations need to strengthen going forward.

The report will be published as a designed brochure (PDF, with print option) and will form the first publication in a broader online dossier on organising and technology hosted on the RLS Brussels website, rosalux.eu. It is also expected to be published on the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung’s English-language main website, rosalux.org. The intended audience includes organisers, activists, trade unionists, and progressive organisations across Europe and beyond.

We are looking for a graphic designer / layouter who can translate complex survey findings into a clear, accessible, and compelling visual narrative – combining strong layout, data visualisation, and illustration, with an affinity for political organising and tech-savvy workflows.

Scope of work

The contractor will be responsible for:

  • Layout, visual editing, and graphic design of a survey report (brochure format, PDF; print-ready); the full survey comprises approximately 7,500 words and is accompanied by a bibliography and a glossary,
  • Translating pre-defined quantitative and qualitative survey results into clear, readable data visualisations (approx. 10 non-complex charts/visualisations in total),
  • Development of coherent visual elements (illustrations, and possibly icons) that can be reused across the dossier and related materials (approx. 5 illustrations in total),
  • Light visual editing to support clarity and narrative flow (no text editing required),
  • Development of small visual assets for distribution on social media, including the adaptation and extraction of selected illustrations and data visualisations from the report for use in social media formats.
  • Optional (please submit a separate budget): Design of tailored visual assets for a dedicated WordPress dossier section on the RLS Brussels website (to be technically set up by the Brussels Office Communications Officer). This may include, for example, a website banner and additional visuals derived from the report’s illustrations. In addition to the survey report, the dossier section will feature approximately 10 interviews (1,000–1,500 words each); the contractor is expected to develop layout and visual templates that can be reused for these texts in WordPress independently by RLS Brussels.

The project will involve at least three online coordination meetings between the successful applicant and the editorial team: an initial project briefing (kick-off), a feedback meeting based on an advanced draft, and a final coordination meeting following editing and layout. The process will include two structured, written feedback rounds. The applicant should be available for additional follow-up meetings if required to finalise the publication.

Required profile

  • Proven experience in graphic design and layout, including complex publications,
  • Strong skills in illustration and data visualisation,
  • Solid experience working with WordPress and social media platforms (Instagram, BlueSky, X, Facebook),
  • Ability to communicate complex political or technical content to a broad audience,
  • Independent, reliable working style and ability to meet deadlines,
  • Excellent English skills.

Experience working with political organisations, NGOs, or organising contexts – or personal familiarity with left-wing organising practices – is a strong asset.
