On the morning of 9 April 2013, some 1,100 employees of the Amazon fulfilment centres in Bad Hersfeld, a small town in central Germany, formed a picket line in front of the gates. They were kitted out with whistles, high-visibility vests bearing the logo of service sector trade union ver.di, and posters calling for a collective agreement based on the rules applicable to retail and mail-order companies.
