The Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung’s Brussels Office, in cooperation with the Foundation’s Beijing Office, invites policymakers, activists and experts to an exchange with leading academics from China on the country’s green transition policies and practice.
As Europe seeks to accelerate the green transition and urgently strengthen its industrial base, debates about China’s economic model and its role in global clean technology markets have become increasingly prominent.
Yet in today’s geopolitical climate of growing trade tensions, there is limited space for critical and constructive reflection on what can be learned from China’s experience. There remains a significant gap in understanding its approach to socio-economic development, as well as the debates taking place within China itself, including around the concept of socialist ecological civilisation and how it is reflected in industrial policy.
By bringing together European and Chinese perspectives, we hope to create space for open and constructive exchange, and contribute to a discussion on approaches to the green transition grounded in cooperation rather than competition.
The discussion will begin with contributions from Prof. Huan Qingzhi and Prof. Li Xinlei, followed by a Q&A session involving other scholars from China.
Topics will include:
- ‘Socialist ecological civilisation’ in theory and practice
- China’s industrial and renewable energy policies
- Competition for critical minerals in the global green transition
- Opportunities for cooperation between China and Europe
