Solidarity and emancipation
An introductive video seriesTo speak of feminist economics is not simply to give a surname to something as orthodox as classic economic studies. Feminist economics re-think traditional analyses and include in them all those invisible activities that are nevertheless indispensable for life to exist and for society to function. Activities that, traditionally, have been taken care of by women's hands. Feminist economics not only observe, but also proposes political action around this idea.
In this series of videos, we will look at different aspects of feminist economics based...

Women's Labour Market Participation in the EU: Obstacles and Policy LeversThe EU has a long tradition of – in what it says at least – supporting women’s labour-market participation and promoting social security policies. The EU’s commitment to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are among its most recent attempts to achieve this, with the SDGs’ promise to end “all forms of discrimination against all women and girls everywhere”. Have such policies yielded any substantive results when it comes to improving ...

We would like to take the opportunity to congratulate Sofie Merckx on her new position as Head of the PTB group!
At the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, in March 2020, Florian Horn, project manager at the Brussels Office of the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung, had the pleasure to interview her, at that time in her role as a member of the organisation Médecine pour le people (MPLP).
«Of course the essential sectors have to work, but we see sectors, like the automotive sector or the construction sector, where people are ...

What role for working time reduction when addressing climate change?About the conference:
The shorter working week has always been at the heart of the labour movement. The eight-hour movement extended beyond borders and ensured that today we enjoy things like the weekend and the eight-hour day.
After decades in the political wilderness, the shorter working week is fast becoming one of the major political issues across Europe: now it is not only about workers’ wellbeing, equality and the reduction of unemployment – now it ...

Exploring Territories of Feminist EconomicsWhen we started thinking about this text, we posed three ambitious questions: How are patriarchal capitalism’s forms of control, and consequently, the attacks against life, being reshaped? How are forms of sustaining life being re-articulated, deepening the invisibilized, feminized, and racialized dimensions of the system? And, finally, how are forms of resistance reinvented that attempt to put life in the center in opposition to global patriarchal capitalism? Obviously, this text does not resolve these three enormous ...

International Workers Aid during and after the 1992-1995 war in Bosnia and HerzegovinaAbout the study
For the majority of people in Europe, the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina remained mainly a TV event; many felt that it did not really concern them or that nothing could be done about it. But at the same time there were also tens of thousands of individuals in countries across Europe who decided that they did not want to remain bystanders, just watching what was going on, but were determined to do something. This went way beyond professional aid organisations: ...

Obituary for Christian KrählingWe were stunned and deeply saddened to learn that Christian Krähling – ver.di ombudsman at the Amazon site in Bad Hersfeld and perhaps the most important leading figure of the trade union movement at Amazon in Germany – died on his 43rd birthday. Christian had been closely associated with the work of the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung (RLS) for many years.
Since the first "Renewal through Strike" conference in Stuttgart in 2013, he was a participant in this conference series, which he always enriched ...

After the three-month lockdown from March to May 2020, Italian national and regional government has done little to prepare adequately for the second wave. This has led to a deepening of the health and social crisis: According to experts, the virus is almost impossible to control, the intensive care units in hospitals are overloaded and healthcare workers are reaching their limits.
"With this level of new infections, the number of tests carried out no longer makes sense. It made sense to do 400,000 tests a day to break the chain of infection. But now the virus has got...

On September 20th and 21st 2020, elections were held in Italy for the first time after the lockdown and in the middle of the second wave of the coronavirus crisis. Voters were asked to decide on the reduction of the size of the Parliament and to elect new executives and parliaments in seven regions. The results confirm two things: a growing divide between the population and political institutions and a strengthening of regional governors.
Italy was by far one of the countries most affected by the coronavirus ...
